Trafford and Hulme Branch
About The Branch
The Trafford & Hulme branch has grown from its original roots and today covers a large area stretching from Manchester City centre in the north to northern Cheshire in the south. The branch includes the entire Borough of Trafford, a large part of Manchester City centre, the western side of the Manchester City Council area plus a small section of North East Cheshire.
In addition to Manchester City centre, other major commercial & leisure centres within the branch include Altrincham, Sale, Chorlton, Urmston, Stretford & Trafford (including the Trafford Centre). The branch also covers Carrington, Flixton, Hale, Hale Barns, Hulme, Partington, Timperley, West Wythenshawe & Whalley Range plus the areas around Little Bollington, Millington, Bucklow Hill and Ashley in North East Cheshire.
The Trafford & Hulme Branch is one of the Campaign's larger branches with over 700 members. We pride ourselves on being a very mixed branch with all ages and a high proportion of women involved in running the branch and attending branch events. Formal branch meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month at a variety of pubs across the branch area. Thursdays are also the preferred night for branch social events that take place most weeks. The branch also regularly organises trips to other towns and local breweries on Saturdays.
If you live in our area, and haven't already, why don't you join us? We would look forward to welcoming you at a future meeting or branch event, and don't be scared - we are not all male, middle aged, with pipes and beards - Honest!
The branch's main festival is Cholrton Beer Festival, held in early July each year at St Clement's Church in Cholrton-cum-Hardy.
Since 2009 the branch has also been involved with Altrincham Bottle & Cask Festival held in Altrincham's Historic Market Hall over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
2011 saw the first Manchester Museum Of Science and Industry (MOSI) Real Ale Festival held in the museum's Power Hall. The festival was so successful that the 2012 event will be expanded to three days with twice as much beer and cider available.
There are three breweries within the Trafford & Hulme Branch area.
Hydes Brewery is the oldest brewery in the branch area, established in 1863. One of Britain's last remaining "Family Brewers" - still owned and managed as a family business. With an estate of more than 80 Managed and Tenanted pubs across the North West, and a growing portfolio of own-brewed beers and lagers, Hydes is one of the top 10 regional brewers in the UK.
Dunham Massey Brewing Company
Dunham Massey is a small family run craft brewery located on National Trust land in the town of Dunham Massey. It brews a range of ales across all beer styles and it's own Altrincham Pilsner. Their beers are available from pubs across the north west and from their own Costello's bar on Goose Green in Altricham.
The Bootleg Brewing Company
The Bootleg Brewing Company is a microbrewery based at the Horse & Jockey pub on Chorlton Green, Chorlton-cum-Hardy. It brewed it's first ale on 25th September 2010 using a 4 barrel plant installed by Porter Brewing Co. A small range of regular beers and seasonal specials are brewed and on sale at The Horse & Jockey and are available for beer festivals on request.
